Luftwaffe pilots with combat aircraft of the types F-5E and F/A-18 (until a few years, Mirage III-S and RS-III) demonstrate to the guests and the interested public, and show off their flight skills. They conduct live firing at targets on a nearby ridge and south slope of the northern slope of Axalphorns and Wildgärst. The demonstrations are supplemented by demonstrations by helicopters such as the Cougar, the Super Puma and the new EC-145T. The conclusion of the event has for many years been a demonstration by the Swiss aerobatic team.
Originally an occasion for the military leaders, politicians and invited guests, but over time more and more spectators attended, so that now a few thousand people make their way to the three spectator areas. The show is a hot tip amongst aviation fans, who attend from all over Europe. It offers the spectacular scenery of the mountains and the unusual proximity to the Jets and the rare appearance of being able to look down on the aircraft, a unique change from the standard flight demonstrations at airports in the lowlands. This is also the only public air show at which the aircraft carry out live target practice. Access is free and no registration is required. In recent years the army has also begun to set up small food stalls!
Philip Zodtner attended for the second year and watched this spectacle with enthusiasm.
